UK ALBUM TOP 40
With the effects of
the Brit awards spilling over for another week,
Keane and
Scissor Sisters swap places
at the top of the chart this week, with the Scissors Sisters album
taking the number 1 spot for the fourth time in its unbelievable
lifetime. The album sold 4,000 units more than last week and has now
sold just short of 150,000 units over the counter in the last two
week. Another 67,000 units and the album will have SOLD 2 million
units. 'Hopes & Fears'
passed 2 million units shipped last week and is just 50,000 units
short of 7x Platinum.
Following the single
#1 last week, the U2
album returns to the top 10 for a 7th week in its 13 week
lifetime. 'How To Dismantle...'
is just 10,000 units short of 4 x Platinum status (1.2 million) and
should at the end of next week have crossed 1 million over the counter
sales.
It has now been 5
consecutive weeks in the top 20 for
Lucie Silvas, in which time
she has sold a total of 90,000 units over the counter of her debut
album 'Breathe In'. It
has now shipped over 260,000 units to date, so is certified Gold and
is not far away from Platinum status. A TV performance at the weekend
on prime time chat show Parkinson will see the album strong again next
week.
The longest serving
album in the Top 40 is 'Final
Straw' by Snow Patrol, that continues to sell even without
a current single at radio. 2005 has seen another 100,000+ over the
counter sales added to the total which topped 1 million by the end of
2004.
Staying at 25 this
week is the Daniel Bedingfield
album 'Second First Impression'
which added another 14,000 units to its sales total to take
the over the counter figures to 3000 units under 200,000. The album is
certified Gold but is under 2000 units away from an official Platinum
status.
