Universal Music artists and recordings triumph at Classical Brit
Awards

Universal Music artists and recordings were omnipresent and triumphant
at the Classical Brit Awards, held on May 25 at London’s Royal Albert
Hall. Singer Katherine Jenkins took the Album of the Year prize with
“Second Nature.”
Her debut release, “Premiere,” had also been nominated in the
category.
Katherine rose to prominence in 2004 after signing to Universal
Classics U.K., and she thanked the company during her acceptance
remarks.
Fellow Welsh performer Bryn Terfel won the prize for Male Artist of
the Year, while flautist Sir James Galway was honoured for his
Outstanding Contribution to Music, in a solo career spanning thirty
years.
John Williams took the Soundtrack Composer award, in recognition of
his work for Steven Spielberg’s “The Terminal” (a Decca soundtrack)
and the most recent Harry Potter soundtrack.
Harry Christopher and The Sixteens took the Ensemble/Orchestral Album
of the Year prize for 'Renaissance' a Universal Classics & Jazz
recording.
Performers at the event, which will be televised in the U.K. on May
29, included violinist Nicola Benedetti and soprano Anna Netrebko.
Among those in the audience at the Albert Hall was Decca’s Hayley
Westenra.
