February 6th will see the release of Sing-A-Longs and
Lullabies, which features songs written for and inspired by the new
animated film "Curious George"
Featuring the voice talent of Will Ferrell and Drew Barrymore, the
film was produced by Ron Howard¹s Imagine Entertainment.
This new album although tied to a film stands alone as a new Jack
Johnson album - it features 9 new songs and 3 duets featuring Jack and
Ben Harper, G Love and Matt Costa.
Faced with the task of giving a voice to a central character that does
not speak, Universal Pictures turned to Jack Johnson to craft songs
that could speak for Curious George. As a new father, it presented an
opportunity for Jack to make an album for parents and children.
Presented with early animations and the story line, Jack crafted new
songs that captured the emotions of Curious George as he leaves the
jungle to follow the Man with the Yellow Hat. He also turned to
friends Ben Harper, G. Love and Matt Costa for songs that might bridge
the gap between parent and child.
Joined on the record by his band (Adam Topol, Merlo Podlewski, and
Zach Gill) Jack duets with 3 of the other songwriters (Ben Harper, G.
Love and Matt Costa), and does a straight up cover of the White
Stripes "We Are Going To Be Friends". Parents who watched Schoolhouse
Rock on Saturday mornings when they were a kid will recognize Jack's
take on the classic "The 3 R's", reinterpreted as a call to protect
the environment and Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle.
The first single is “Upside Down” and a video mixing live action and
animation from the film will be available as of mid January.
This is a big priority for the film company and we will get the
benefit of Universal Pictures marketing as well.
The single is the music bed for all the trailers for the upcoming
movie and Jack’s name is voiced in the spot as “original music by Jack
Johnson”.
Film will hit theatres in the Middle East in April 2006.
